The seine fishery has not been active today; the two sets in lower Baynes Sound
this morning were released due to fish size. Fishing may resume in early
morning if the weather moderates and stocks are located. The seine fishery was
open March 6 and March 8 to 12. Catch estimate on hails and validations is
approximately 9,500 tons of the 13,013 ton quota.

The roe herring gill net fishery has been open since March 4. The catch for the
gill net fishery is 8,200 tons of the 15,171 ton quota.

The test vessel Denman Isle assessed the Nanaimo area to Northwest Bay, and
will assess Sabine Channel and Powell River over the next few days before
returning to Area 14 and ending the charter south of Nanaimo next weekend.

There was no spawn observed on the flight this morning at 10:00 hours from
Nanaimo to Shelter Point. Total miles of spawn to date are 34 NM. There is no
spawn flight planned for tomorrow. The dive assessment teams on the vessels
Ocean Cloud and Viking Spirit have commenced the dive survey program and
weather is hampering assessment.
