The fishery was open March 9 from 10:40 hours to 20:50 hours in Lower Baynes Sound, catch estimate is approximately 1,200 tons. The fishery was also open on March 8 from 07:45 to 14:00 hours, catch estimate 3,200 tons; and March 6 from 11:00 to 16:00 hours, catch estimate 2,500. The total seine fishery catch estimate on hails and validations is 7,100 tons of the 13,013 ton quota. The roe herring gill net fishery has been open since March 4. The catch for the gill net fishery is 7,900 tons of the 15,171 ton quota. The test vessel Denman Isle assessed to Nanaimo last night, and will be assessing Northumberland Channel and below Dodd Narrows tonight and tomorrow. Spawn flight is underway this morning at 10:00 hours, Nanaimo to Shelter Point. 1 NM of medium spawn Cape Lazo to Kye Bay. Total miles of spawn observed from the flights to date approximately 30 NM.
