TOTAL STRAIT OF GEORGIA: Assessment underway.

The DFO charter test vessel "Denman Isle" and herring industry test 
vessels "Viking Cavalier" and "Western King" are assessing Area 14 and 17 North 
today. There is a large biomass of fish in the EC of Denman Island area between 
Komas Bluff and Cape Lazo in the Horseshoe, and schools in Lambert Channel and 
along Eagle Rock out to the scallop farm. There were a few schools also sounded 
off Cape Lazo early this morning, and a few small scratches and schools have 
been seen in Upper Baynes Sound. The test boats will be setting up to test the 
fish from Lambert to scallop farm tonight, and in the Horseshoe in the morning. 

There was a light spawn 0.7 nautical miles reported yesterday morning above 
Cape Lazo, in the area of Kin Beach to Little River. There was a spawn 
overflight which departed Nanaimo at 0910 hours this morning and covered 
Nanaimo to Powell River, over to Shelter Point, Cape Lazo, Denman and Hornby 
Islands, Baynes Sound and the Vancouver Island shore to Nanoose. No spawn was 
observed. The next spawn flight is planned for planned Monday March 6.
