TOTAL STRAIT OF GEORGIA: Assessment underway.

The DFO charter test vessel "Denman Isle" and herring industry test 
vessel "Viking Cavalier" have been assessing Area 14 over the past several 
days. There is a large biomass of fish in the EC of Denman Island area between 
Komas Bluff and Cape Lazo in the Horseshoe. There was a test set this morning 
on fish just to the East of Comox bar on the outside of the bar; they were 6.5% 
19.2cm. The test set in the Horseshoe yesterday morning was and 5.0% and 19.6 
cm. Also this morning another large body of fish has been sounded NE of Hornby 
Island, assessment is underway however preliminary estimate is 20,000 tons. A 
test on these fish this morning was 5.2%, 20.2 cm. A few small scratches have 
been seen in Baynes Sound, and the "Denman Isle" is assessing from outer Hornby 
to Northwest Bay tonight. The "Viking Cavalier" is assessing Cape Lazo to 
Oyster River, 1,000 tons located between Lazo and the ferry crossing, and 3,000 
tons Oyster River to Kuhushan Pt. 

The Baynes Sound cable ferry the "Baynes Sound Connector" is in operation and 
vessels transiting the area are reminded to follow the protocol for crossing 
the cable corridor. There has been no spawn reported to date and there are no 
spawn flights planned at this time.  Weather forecast is winds light increasing 
to southeast 10 to 15 knots early this afternoon and to southeast 15 to 20 late 
this afternoon. Wind increasing to southeast 20 to 30 late overnight.
