The second harvesting period is scheduled to run from September 15, 2017 to November 15, 2017. Individual harvest sites will close earlier in-season if the harvest site quota is achieved. The commercial Pacific oyster fishery is divided into two licence areas. An Area Licence Selection process was conducted to allow harvesters to select which of the two licence areas they wished to designate their licence for this season. This designation will appear on each commercial licence. The maximum allowable licence harvest (Individual Quota) is outlined on each commercial licence. Harvesters must be in possession of their new 2017/2018 commercial licence in order to harvest. Licence holders must contact the designated Service Provider (D&D Pacific Fisheries Ltd) to make arrangements for the company to provide the necessary in- season reporting requirements outlined in the commercial licence conditions. These reporting requirements include pre-harvest hail notification, harvest hail reporting, and quota tracking. Licence holders are required to hail to D&D Pacific Fisheries prior to harvesting, and following harvest. Please read the conditions of licence for more information on hail requirements. Quotas for the individual harvest sites are outlined in the 2017/2018 Pacific Oyster Integrated Fisheries Management Plan (IFMP). Harvest sites will be closed as quotas are achieved in-season. Licence holders must phone the Service Provider prior to fishing and confirm remaining quotas available at the harvest site. Failing to hail is a violation of licence conditions. Licence holders are responsible for ensuring they accurately complete and submit harvest logbooks as outlined in their licence conditions. Harvesting is prohibited in all Sanitary Contamination closures. Check for sanitary closures within portions of the management quota areas listed above prior to each day's harvesting. Harvesters are responsible for checking Fishery Notices for the Bivalve Shellfish Marine Bio-toxin Updates prior to each day's harvesting, as recommended by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and issued by DFO. For descriptions of Sanitary and Biotoxin closures see the DFO website at: http://www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/fm-gp/contamination/biotox/index-eng.htm Harvesters are advised to observe the boundaries of any intertidal tenures. Harvesting on tenures is prohibited under this fishery opening unless authorized by the tenure holder. Fishers should consult and read the 2017/2018 Pacific Oyster Integrated Fisheries Management Plan and the licence condition for this fishery prior to fishing. A copy of the IFMP may be obtained by emailing a request to: guy.parker@dfo-mpo.gc.ca Harvesters are reminded that the harvest licence for this fishery authorizes hand-picking only. Harvesting by diving or other harvesting methods is not authorized by this licence. For more information contact a local DFO office or Guy Parker at 250-756-7163.
