Fishery Notice

Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) conducts an internet survey of Tidal Waters 
Sport Fishing Licence holders to efficiently and cost-effectively collect data 
on recreational fishing activity and catch in the tidal waters of British 
Columbia. The information collected is used in combination with data from other 
sources to provide estimates of catch and effort in recreational fisheries.  
This survey approach was first tested in March 2012 and has been conducted 
monthly since July 2012.

This survey relies on a commitment from users of the resource to report their 
catch, so our fisheries can be managed to provide the best sustainable 
opportunities possible.

Every month, a random sample of current Tidal Waters Sport Fishing Licences is 
drawn to select survey participants. The survey is conducted for DFO by EKOS 
Research and Associates. Participants are first contacted via email by DFO and 
then by EKOS with a link to the survey website. 

Contact information provided by DFO to EKOS is kept securely and used only for 
the purpose of conducting this survey. Individual survey responses remain 
strictly confidential and are protected in accordance with the provisions of 
the federal Privacy Act:

required as a condition of licence for Tidal Waters Sport Fishing Licence 
holders.
