The test vessel Denman Isle assessed the area from Nanaimo to Nanoose last 
night and this morning.  One test set was completed near Maude Island, which 
was spawned out fish.  Today and for the next couple of days the Denman Isle 
will be assessing the area south of Nanaimo beginning with outer Gabriola 
Island.

A spawn flight was completed this morning covering the areas from Nanaimo to 
Cape Lazo and the mainland shore from Powell River to Pender Harbour.   One 
small area of potential spawn was noted in inner Nanoose bay but no other spawn 
was observed.  The next spawn flight is planned for Saturday, March 17.

To date, approximately 41.1 nautical miles of spawn has been observed.

The Strait of Georgia seine fishery closed on Sunday March 11, 2018.  The total 
estimated catch for the seine fishery is 3,429 tons of the 9,813 ton TAC.  No 
further fishing is anticipated this season.

The Strait of Georgia gillnet fishery closed at midnight on March 7, 2018.  
Total validated catch is 11,033 tons of the 11,177 ton quota.  The gillnet 
fishery may reopen if a fishing opportunity is identified.
