TOTAL STRAIT OF GEORGIA: 65,000 tons

The seine fishery in the Strait of Georgia closed today at 12:00 hours. Catch 
estimate on hails and validations is approximately 9,690 tons of the 13,013 ton 
quota.

The roe herring gill net fishery has been open since March 4 and was active 
yesterday and today. The hailed and validated catch estimate for the gill net 
fishery is 8,800 tons of the 15,171 ton quota. 

The test vessel Denman Isle is assessing Area 15 today and tomorrow, no 
significant stocks and no tests from this area located to date. The industry 
test vessel the Western King will be on charter in Area 14 until March 16. 
The spawn flight today at 12:15 hours observed 4.0 NM Whaling Station Bay to St 
Johns Point on Hornby Island, medium to heavy; and 6.0 NM Seal Island to 
Fillongley Park on Denman Island. Total miles of spawn to date are 
approximately 46 NM. The next spawn flight is planned for Saturday March 18, 
weather permitting. The dive assessment teams are working in the Little 
Qualicum River to Nile Creek area today.
