Fishery Notice

Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) conducts an official internet survey of BC 
Tidal Waters Sport Fishing Licence holders to collect data on recreational 
fishing activity and catch in the tidal waters of British Columbia. The 
information collected is used in combination with data from creel surveys and 
logbook programs to provide estimates of catch and effort in recreational 
fisheries. 
 
Every month, a random sample of current Tidal Waters Sport Fishing Licence 
holders is selected to provide information on their fishing activity in the 
month for which they are selected. It is a condition of licence to respond to 
the survey. 

Licence holders can only be selected to participate in the survey once for each 
licence they hold.

The survey is conducted for DFO by PRA Inc. Participants are first contacted 
via email by DFO and then by PRA Inc. with a link to the survey website. 
Individual survey responses remain strictly confidential and are protected in 
accordance with the provisions of the federal Privacy Act:

This survey relies on a commitment from users of the resource to report their 
fishing activity, so our fisheries can be managed to in a sustainable manner 
and so we can provide fishing opportunities whenever possible.
